Weekend visit to VMI, Lexington Virginia

This past weekend we visited VMI (Virginia Military Institute) in Lexington Virigina. This was one of several college visitation road trips our eldest son has planned this spring. He will be a senior in high school next year.

Virginia is a beautiful state. Everytime we visit or drive through the state I wished we lived there. Our time at the post was very impressive and motivational for our son. It remains his top pick on the college list. Next weekend we visit Drexel University in Philadelphia and Norwich in May. We hope to also check out the Naval Academy and West Point.

The photo is of a flowering tree (weeping cherry, I think) that was by the parade grounds at VMI. There were several trees in bloom.. I am anxious for gardens of central Pennsylvania to begin blooming. Flowers are one of my favorite photography subjects.

These swans are made by a great company in North Carolina. I first found them as a decorative painter. I painted many of their swans with ribbon and floral designs for weddings and home decor. I happened upon them this spring at the Philadelphia gift show. I found their awesome garden fountains and list them in my ebay store . Many different designs and color finishes are available....

I love the 2 levels and the spindle legs. Spindle legs are one of my favorite furniture accents. We recently put an addition on our 1890 country home and I used spindle accents on all my bathroom cabinets. - we get lots of compliments on the cabinets - I think those little extra touches really make a difference.

Lets start on a personal note....

I live in eastern Pennsylvania, in historic rural farmland between Gettysburg and Philadelphia. I live among Amish and Mennonite communties. An Amish family lives 2 houses down from me. My county is quiet and not yet overtaken by developements.


The photo was taken this week -early in the morning- on my front porch.

I will share more photos in the coming days to help you get a taste of life in Lebanon County.


When I am not shopping for great home decor my customers, I enjoy photography, running, and raising my 5 children who all still live at home...maybe we can share comments on these topics as well.....thank you for stopping by..

Selling online has brought many many new friends (from all over the world) to my business - but I miss the opportunity to meet face to face with my customers and learn more about them and what they most like in my store, or what they are looking for that I don't offer yet. This blog is designed to start conversation between me and my customers... I hope you will take advantage and post comments from time to time ...and even photos of how you use Shelley B Home and Holiday treasures to decorate your home.

I also will post brief articles and photos of home decor items, and links to other great products I have found during all my hours on the internet. I still get an urge to create from time to time so watch for do it yourself decorating projects and other crafty bits.
